Very early on… before we even had a name and Rindle was just part of a brainstorm, the idea was to create an app that brought all of your tasks into one organized location. As we talked, we constantly found that the word “stream” often came up in the conversation:
“You can stream in your tasks”
“The data will stream in”
“They can add a stream to the app”
When it finally came down to naming our company and product, we struggled quite a bit identifying the right branding to convey the product. When you are so invested in a project, it is difficult to give a name to the result of so much hard work. We finally landed on Rindle.
To be honest, we just really loved the sound of it. In that moment, we weren’t sure what it meant, but it had a nice ring to it. Simple, short, easy to say, easy to spell, easy to remember. So naturally, we looked up the definition.
Rindle (rĭn´d’l) – A small water course or gutter
Reading this definition really helped us connect with the name. We immediately made the connection that a small water course is just like a stream, which fit in perfectly with our conversation during our brainstorming sessions. From that point on, it stuck: Rindle quickly became part of our everyday language and felt natural.
We had to complete the circle and do a little research to make sure Rindle didn’t have any other meanings. We found some interesting results. If you look up the word Rindle on urbandictionary.com you’ll find this definition:
Rindle – Unripe – This pineapple tastes sour, it must be rindle
A bit negative but nothing too bad. If you do a Google Image Search for rindle, you’ll stumble upon this:
Hmmmmm… Maybe we have a future mascot! 🙂
In any case, the name Rindle fits well with our goals and inspiration for this tool, and we thought that it would be fun to share the story with you.
